Job Description
Our client, an independent teaching hospital at the forefront of innovative medicine, is hiring a Vice President, Perioperative Services, RN.
Responsibilities:
- Directs the clinical and administrative functions of Perioperative Services to ensure high quality, effective patient care, and effective use of labor and non-labor resources.
- With the Physician Clinical and Business leaders, directs the development of short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the department in collaboration with members of the medical, administrative, and patient services leadership.
- Establishes integrated philosophies and practices, and develops programs
- Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards for patient services, and monitors reporting units for compliance with JCAHO, Federal, State and City agency mandates.
- Selects and develops effective leadership teams of clinical managers and professional staff.
- Directs the development of the departmental operating, capital, and program budgets, ensuring compliance with internal budgetary guidelines
- Supports departmental goals and objectives by developing and implementing divisional goals, developing special programs in conjunction with divisional leadership and preparing annual and other reports as required.
- Uses available utilization data to determine overall staffing needs of division
- Works with Clinical Managers to develop staffing plans and schedules and to maintain appropriate staffing levels and staffing mix for units
- Selects, hires and supervises Clinical Managers, Nurse Managers Assistant Nurse Managers and Business Manager.
- Conducts divisional and leadership staff meetings to review patient care issues, communicate changes in policies and procedures and implement corrective action as necessary.
- Assists divisional management in developing clinical and other information and resources to assist Nurse Managers and Assistant Nurse Managers in directing their areas efficiently and allocating resources appropriately so as to provide therapeutic and effective patient care.
- Provides and communicates information to members of the healthcare team on a variety of clinical and administrative matters (e.g., new products, equipment and techniques); makes recommendations to management on implementation and/or acquisition of new products/techniques; conducts in-services as required.
- Acts as liaison with medical staff, Chairman and other departments.
- Directs the maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff.
- Reviews credentialing and related policies and procedures for compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies; recommends and implements changes as required and ensures changes are communicated to Patient Services staff; monitors and reviews departmental and unit compliance with reporting requirements. Develop, maintain, and promulgate policies and procedures for department; delegates responsibilities connected to this function accordingly.
- Works with the Physician Business and Clinical Leaders, other Directors of Nursing and other members of the healthcare team to develop, monitor, implement and evaluate nursing standards and engage quality improvement activities.
- Works with Physician Business and Clinical leaders, other DONs and administrative staff, to develop, implement and monitor compliance with the performance improvement program; reviews monitors, clinical indicators, utilization issues and other related matters and provides information and reports as required by the medical center and regulatory agencies.
- Oversees the Development of annual divisional budget in collaboration with the Budget Manager and Materials Management staff; manages budget throughout the year, analyzing and monitoring monthly reports and overtime runs to ensure department operates within budget guidelines.
- Collaborates with Nursing and Finance in developing and monitoring systems by which non-labor resources can funded and provided most cost-effectively; works to standardize procedures and develop databases that will assist efficient planning of patient care services, programs and initiatives.
- Supervises the Business Manager in assisting the Finance Department in developing uniform cost accounting methodology to aid in determining and projecting accurately the costs of patient care services and other significant direct costs.
- With the AVP, Nursing and other DONs, develops and communicates to staff standard formats for fiscal, material and human resource management development and planning; assists in training staff in new methods.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvements program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.
- Masters degree in Nursing, Health or Business Administration or a related field required.
- Current NYS license as RN required.
- 3+ years of experience in relevant clinical area, including at least of 3 years of supervisory experience in Operating Room required.
- Experience working in an organized labor union environment preferred.
- Clinical nursing skills and expertise.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills; knowledge of continuous quality improvements model and tools
- Demonstrated proficiency in information systems usage including word processing, presentation, database, and spreadsheet software, and other programs in use in the OR.
