Job Description
Overview
Our client, a respected healthcare organization recognized for its commitment to exceptional patient care and maternal health innovation, is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to lead its Labor and Delivery Unit.
This vital leadership role oversees the daily operations of the L&D unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and family-centered care. The Nurse Manager will provide hands-on leadership in staff management, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration—driving excellence in patient outcomes and staff engagement.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all aspects of the Labor & Delivery unit, including staffing, scheduling, and day-to-day operations.

Collaborate closely with physicians, case managers, bed coordinators, and other departments to ensure efficient patient flow, from admission through discharge.

Recruit, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff, supporting professional growth through competency development and ongoing performance management.
-
Monitor productivity and adjust staffing based on patient census, acuity, and clinical priorities.

Develop, implement, and evaluate quality and performance improvement initiatives in alignment with hospital goals.
-
Ensure full compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and professional practice standards.

Participate in budget planning and management, including personnel, supply, and capital resources.

Foster a positive, team-oriented culture built on collaboration, accountability, and mutual respect.

Lead initiatives to improve patient experience, clinical quality metrics, and overall service excellence.

Address staff, patient, and physician concerns promptly, ensuring a supportive and solutions-focused environment.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required); Master’s preferred

Active Connecticut RN license (required at hire)

Minimum of 3 years of nursing leadership experience (charge nurse, coordinator, or manager)

BLS certification required; ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certifications required within 6 months of hire

Strong analytical and data management skills, with the ability to interpret and present reports effectively

Proficient in MS Office and related software applications

Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills with a collaborative mindset
