Job Description
Our client, a leading ambulatory surgical center, is seeking a dynamic and adaptable Director of Nursing (DON) to guide clinical excellence and operational efficiency. This role requires a hands-on leader with Operating Room (OR) experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- This role is both administrative and clinical. Must be comfortable in the OR.
- Coordinates scheduling of procedures with scheduling personnel.
- Oversee all nursing operations, ensuring high standards of care and regulatory compliance.
- Prepares and manages staffing schedules in alignment with vacation requests, holidays, and operational needs to ensure adequate coverage and continuity of care.
- Prepares daily personnel assignments and delegates responsibilities based on staff experience and skill level to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
- Actively participate in patient care if scheduled, including pre-op, post-op, and OR duties—not just for brief periods, but as a core part of daily responsibilities.
- Supervise and support nursing staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and satisfaction.
- Lead inspection control initiatives and ensure adherence to safety protocols as always prepared for inspections.
- Monitor staff performance and implement ongoing training programs.
- Serve as a spokesperson for nursing services, representing the center in professional forums and committees.
- Support and encourage research and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Current New Jersey RN license required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a DON in a long-term care or similar setting.
- CPR Certification
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a nursing department.
- Proven ability to lead in high-volume, high-acuity environments—must be agile and adaptable.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time position
- Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts
- Expect to start the day and could be admitting up to 20 patients
- Must be comfortable working across all phases of surgical care
