Job Description
Our client, an academic teaching hospital serving a diverse community in New York City, is hiring a Psychiatrist, Residency Program Director. Lead and oversee the ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency Program and be responsible for the overall administration, education, and development of the program, ensuring excellence in resident training, curriculum innovation, and faculty mentorship. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with a passion for medical education, academic scholarship, and clinical excellence in psychiatry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Psychiatry Residency Program in alignment with ACGME standards and institutional goals.
- Oversee all aspects of resident recruitment, selection, evaluation, and mentorship, fostering a supportive and academically enriching environment.
- Develop and enhance the curriculum and didactic programs, incorporating evidence-based practices, psychotherapy training, and neuroscientific advancements in psychiatry.
- Ensure compliance with ACGME accreditation requirements, including program documentation, evaluations, and faculty development.
- Lead and mentor faculty in teaching, scholarly activities, and professional development, promoting a culture of academic excellence.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership to integrate residents into multidisciplinary teams and enhance clinical training experiences across diverse psychiatric settings.
- Foster opportunities for research, quality improvement projects, and scholarly activity among residents and faculty.
- Serve as a key liaison between the residency program, medical school affiliates, hospital administration, and national organizations in psychiatry education.
- Participate in clinical care, supervision, and teaching within the department of psychiatry.
Requirements:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board-certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
- Minimum five years of academic and clinical experience, with at least three years in graduate medical education leadership (e.g., Associate Program Director or Core Faculty).
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, resident mentorship, and ACGME accreditation standards.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education and clinical care.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fellowship training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or another subspecialty.
- Experience in scholarly activity, grant writing, or medical education research.
- Familiarity with ACGME Next Accreditation System (NAS) and Milestones.
