Job Description
Our client, a leading healthcare provider renowned for its exceptional cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical services, is hiring a Physician Assistant (PA) Cardiac Surgery Step-Down to join their dedicated team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a busy, expanding practice within a top-ranked hospital recognized for excellence in Heart & Vascular care. The PA in this role will be responsible for managing post-operative cardiothoracic patients in a specialized step-down unit. They will provide critical intermediate care for patients recovering from procedures such as CABG, valve replacements, lung resections, or heart transplants. The position is ideal for experienced PAs who have a strong passion for cardiovascular care and are committed to delivering high-quality patient management in a fast-paced environment. The role plays a vital part in ensuring smooth patient recovery, preventing complications, and collaborating closely with the surgical team.
Responsibilities
- Manage patients in the cardiothoracic step-down unit, including post-operative and stable cardiac patients requiring continuous monitoring.
- Perform assessments, vital sign checks, and hemodynamic evaluations.
- Monitor medications, including vasopressors, anticoagulation, and device management such as pacemakers and chest tubes.
- Coordinate patient care plans, monitor wound healing, and ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Communicate effectively with the cardiothoracic surgery team to optimize recovery outcomes.
- Participate in a 3-shift schedule (three 12.5-hour shifts weekly) with no on-call duties, including nights and weekends as scheduled.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years as a Physician Assistant, with a strong focus and interest in cardiology.
- Proven experience in cardiac or thoracic patient care, with a passion for cardiovascular specialty.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
- Open to working across different hospital sites as needed.
