Department: Physician Assistant (PA)
Job Number: 6614
Pay Rate: $142060-160000
Employment Type: Full Time
Job Description
Our client, a nationally renowned academic medical center and integrated healthcare delivery system, is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join their dynamic Plastic Surgery team. This is a unique opportunity to work within a high-volume outpatient practice that offers a full spectrum of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures, serving a diverse and often underserved patient population. This position offers a balanced mix of surgical and clinical responsibilities, with a strong focus on outpatient care. The PA will be involved in both pre- and post-operative patient management and will assist in a wide variety of procedures. The role includes at least one dedicated OR day per week, with the potential for a second, depending on surgical volume and staffing. Most OR time will involve second assist responsibilities, as residents typically serve as first assist.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a busy outpatient plastic surgery clinic
- Assist in the operating room (minimum one day/week) across a range of plastic and reconstructive procedures
- Conduct post-operative follow-ups, wound care, and procedural consults
- Collaborate closely with attending surgeons, residents, and the broader care team
- Document clinical encounters, order labs/imaging, and manage ongoing treatment plans
- Participate in inpatient consult coverage on a limited basis (1–2 times/year)
Clinical Scope. The PA will have exposure to a broad variety of plastic surgery cases, including:
- Abdominal reconstruction and body contouring
- Breast reconstruction and reduction
- Head and neck surgeries
- Aesthetic and cosmetic procedures
- Hand surgery (in collaboration with a dedicated hand surgeon)
- Minor excisions and "lumps and bumps"
- Medicare/Medicaid patient base with a wide clinical mix
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
- NCCPA certification and eligibility for state licensure
- Strongly preferred: Surgical experience in plastic surgery
- Preferred: 1+ years of clinical experience in a surgical specialty
- Will consider highly motivated new graduates with significant plastic surgery-focused electives, rotations, or surgical residency/fellowship experience
- Excellent clinical judgment, team orientation, and communication skills
Salary: The posted range is not a guarantee. The actual salary will be based on qualifications, experience, and education and could fall outside of this range. Contact us for more information.
