Job Description

Our client, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) committed to providing high-quality healthcare to all patients, is hiring a Physician Assistant to deliver primary care services to adolescents in a secure detention facility. This role is ideal for a provider who thrives in a challenging yet meaningful healthcare environment. The provider must be comfortable working under strict security measures, including no cell phone access. Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts (Wed, Sat, Sun | 7 AM – 7 PM)

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Provide comprehensive primary care to adolescent patients, ensuring their safety and well-being in a secure setting.
  • Conduct medical history evaluations, physical exams, and diagnostic assessments.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans using diagnostic data.
  • Perform routine well-care exams and gynecological evaluations, as indicated.
  • Prescribe medications and educate patients on proper usage and side effects (parent/guardian consent required when applicable).
  • Administer immunizations and assist with phlebotomy as needed.
  • Order and review lab results, adjusting treatment plans accordingly.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and track follow-up care.
  • Complete all required documentation (medical forms, court orders, ACS-mandated paperwork).
  • Collaborate with physicians and specialists for consultation and referrals.
  • Provide emergency care to facility employees when necessary.

Administrative & Compliance

  • Supervise medical assistants on-site, ensuring efficiency and patient flow.
  • Participate in case conferences and peer reviews to discuss patient care and treatment strategies.
  • Assist the Medical Director in developing medical protocols and forms.
  • Adhere to clinical guidelines and facility policies.
  • Engage in patient advocacy and outreach to support overall health initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Licensed and registered as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) in New York State.
  • 1+ years of experience as a PA or NP (detention center experience not required).
  • Background in Acute Care, Family Health, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Community Health, or related fields preferred.
  • Fluent in English; Spanish proficiency is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a high-security environment with strict regulations.
