Job Description
Our client, a nationally renowned academic medical center and integrated healthcare delivery system, is currently hiring a Physician Assistant (PA) to join their dynamic surgical team. This role offers a diverse mix of operating room, floor, and pre-/post-operative responsibilities, providing comprehensive patient care in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with surgeons, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Operating Room (OR) Responsibilities:
- Assist in surgical procedures as first or second assist.
- Perform intraoperative tasks such as suturing, retracting, and tissue handling.
- Ensure proper positioning of patients and adherence to sterile techniques.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to optimize efficiency and patient safety.
Floor Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily rounds and manage inpatient care.
- Monitor patient progress, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Perform bedside procedures, such as wound care, drain management, and line placements.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient care.
Pre- and Post-Operative Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive preoperative assessments, including history-taking and physical exams.
- Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, risks, and post-operative care.
- Manage post-operative care, including pain control, wound management, and rehabilitation planning.
- Conduct follow-up visits to monitor recovery and address patient concerns.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
- Certification: Current NCCPA certification.
- Licensure: Active NY PA license (or ability to obtain).
- Experience: Prior surgical or hospital-based experience preferred, but new graduates with strong clinical rotations in surgery are encouraged to apply.
- Skills: Proficiency in surgical assisting techniques, excellent clinical judgment, and strong communication skills.
