Description: Hiring a Nurse Manager for Outpatient Oncology for a not-for-profit community teaching hospital in Connecticut. The Nurse Manager for Outpatient Oncology will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of patient care to the Adult (18-64 years) and Geriatric (65 plus years) populations utilizing the Nursing Process and following all established standards of practice. The Nurse Manager for Outpatient Oncology will supervise nursing activities and coordinate staffing and workflow activities to support seamless patient care. The Nurse Manager for Outpatient Oncology will coordinate and supervise the orientation of new nursing staff and students.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, practice and promote patient safety and quality of care in collaboration with staff
  • Participate in development of policies and procedures and standards of care
  • Provide direct patient care to select group of patients and advocates
  • Respect and protect the patient’s rights to confidentiality
  • Perform service recovery and communicate patient plan of care reflecting patient issues and proposed interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes
  • Monitor Press Ganey and HCAHPS organizationally and unit based. Initiate and participate in action plans and best practices to ensure excellence in the patient’s experience
  • Collaborate with patient, family, and healthcare team in implementing plan of care
  • Participate in and support performance improvement and risk management activities
  • Initiate and complete apparent cause analysis in conjunction with the nurse manager
  • Review and respond to QASYS
  • Complete Kronos for Infusion and Office Practice Nursing
  • Ensure adherence to principles and best practice standards for administration of anti-cancer therapies as outline in ASCO/ONS Safety Standards Including standards for Safe Administration and Management of Oral Chemotherapy
  • Evaluate patient outcome, effectiveness of plan of care and patient understanding of treatment plan and discharge teaching
  • Participate in education and demonstrate evidence-based practice
  • Maintain minimum of 6 contact hours annually

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Valid license as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • ONS and Chemotherapy Certification preferred
  • BLS Certification

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in nursing supervision as a coordinator, charge nurse or manager required
  • Experience in inpatient and outpatient setting preferred

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to develop and communicate written policies and procedures required
