Job Description

Our client, a premier community teaching hospital located in the metropolitan New York area, is seeking to hire a Microbiology Laboratory Manager. The Microbiology Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the microbiology department, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to regulatory standards. This role requires proactive problem-solving, effective collaboration across departments, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to support organizational goals and high-quality patient care.  This role is integral to the hospital’s mission of delivering exceptional patient care and advancing healthcare solutions through innovation and collaboration.
Responsibilities:
  • Departmental Leadership: Manage and direct the operations of the microbiology laboratory, ensuring high-quality service delivery and adherence to all safety, compliance, and accreditation requirements.

  • Problem Resolution: Actively engage in resolving operational challenges and assist staff and clients in adapting to changes in procedures or technologies.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other supervisors, managers, and hospital departments to identify and implement solutions that enhance departmental and organizational performance.

  • Process Improvement: Develop and maintain efficient systems to streamline workflows and address ongoing issues that affect departmental goals and patient care delivery.

  • Technical Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge in microbiology and share expertise with staff and clients through training and mentorship.

  • Client Relationships: Foster strong business relationships with both new and existing clients, promoting comprehensive service delivery.

  • Staff Support: Provide guidance and support to laboratory staff, including training, development, and performance management.

  • Bench Coverage: Perform bench duties when necessary to maintain seamless operations during staffing shortages.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field with ASCP certification required.

  • Master’s Degree (MS in Management, MHA, or MBA) preferred.

  • Leadership and management abilities.
