Job Description

Our client, a well-established community hospital in Brooklyn serving a diverse population, is hiring a Lead Hospitalist to spearhead program growth and modernization initiatives. This role is vital for elevating clinical practices, administrative leadership, and expanding acute care services within a smaller community hospital setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the hospitalist program, including scheduling, quality metrics, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee hospitalist scheduling, ensuring efficient coverage aligned with operational goals.
  • Collaborate on quality improvement initiatives focusing on length of stay, readmission rates, and other hospital metrics.
  • Coordinate discharges and care transitions in partnership with outpatient practices.
  • Support program expansion into higher acuity services and potential residency or teaching development.
  • Maintain minimal administrative duties (~10%), focusing predominantly on clinical leadership and program advancement.

Requirements:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Minimum of 4 years hospitalist experience, preferably within established programs.
  • Proven ability to improve coverage models, standardize workflows, and optimize discharge processes.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a builder/optimizer mindset.
  • Demonstrated success in quality improvement projects and care transition management.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with clinical staff and administration.
  • Ability to work Mon–Fri schedule with one weekend per month; additional weekends optional with extra compensation.
  • Willingness to participate in occasional hospital duties and quality meetings.
  • Possibility of involvement in teaching/residency programs in the future.
