Job Description
Our client, a non-profit organ procurement organization (OPO) that facilitates organ and tissue recovery, is hiring an Executive Director. The organization supports, and honors their donor families, and educate the community about donation and transplantation. They serve a population of 13 million people in the greater NYC area and its neighboring counties. They partner with 11 transplant centers and nearly 100 hospitals to ensure that an individual’s wishes to donate are honored and lives are saved.
Their reach into philanthropic circles in NYC and the greater NY area to focus on both major gifts and sustaining financial support for the organization. This goal will not only require the work of the organization as a supplier organization, but innovation, education and research while sustaining strong partnerships with the healthcare and business ecosystem and the community at large.
In recent times, the organization has had a small and limited fundraising focus ( $1M/year). It is the expectation that the successful candidate for this outstanding opportunity will maximize the fundraising potential of the organization and dramatically increase financial contributions. While the upper limit of the organization’s capacity is as yet unknown, it is hoped that the organization can achieve and sustain gifts of $5M/year or more in the next three years.
The Executive Director will begin with a “clean slate” to develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy and play a pivotal role in strengthening fundraising capacity. This role operates in a shared model space. Currently, the Foundation Executive Director is supported by the organizations staff-including administrative, finance, marketing & communications, HR. The ideal candidate must bring a broad range of talents and past accomplishments to the role. Guiding and building a philanthropic culture in the organization, with the board, external partners, individuals, and corporations and achieving significant goals requires a very special leader.
Requirements:
- Commitment to the mission.
- Undergraduate degree required, Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years relevant work experience, ideally with a track record of success as a Major Gift Officer.
- Successful track record of fundraising for/with foundations, corporations, grants, and individual donors.
- Comprehensive understanding of fundraising mechanics, knowledge of current fundraising trends, and knowledge of the local and national philanthropic community.
- Computer literate, particularly with Microsoft Office applications as well as donor management applications.
- Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
- A builder of programs, people, systems, and processes.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
- Self-starter with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and to work independently with minimal supervision on a day-to-day basis.
- Ability to work evenings/weekends as fundraising opportunities require.
- Ability to work onsite in Long Island City
