Our client, a reputable healthcare organization committed to excellence and patient-centered care, is hiring a Director of Nursing, Med Surg to lead their Medical Surgical Nursing Division with strategic vision and operational expertise.
The Director of Nursing, Med Surg, will play a pivotal role in shaping nursing practices across a 350-bed facility that includes specialized units such as behavioral health, obstetrics, NICU, and advanced cardiovascular services. This leadership position demands a proactive, respectful, and collaborative nurse executive who fosters a culture of community, partnership, and continuous improvement, aligning with organizational goals and the Magnet recognition standards. The successful candidate will oversee staffing, patient safety, and quality initiatives while supporting a dynamic team of nursing professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Provide visionary leadership and administrative oversight of the Medical Surgical Nursing Division.
- Support and develop nursing staff, fostering a culture aligned with the organization’s values of respect and collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, including CMS and Department of Health requirements.
- Promote a culture of excellence in patient care, including high safety standards and innovative practices.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including the chief nursing officer, labor relations, and other clinical departments.
- Lead change management initiatives, especially during role rollouts and operational shifts.
- Maintain effective relationships with unions, ensuring a positive labor environment.
Requirements:
- Valid RN license and current certification in relevant clinical specialties.
- Proven leadership experience in Med Surg, preferably within a hospital setting of similar size and complexity.
- Strong knowledge of Magnet standards and work with organizational leadership, including the chief nursing officer.
- Experience in change management, staff development, and team building.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment subject to CMS, DOH inspections, and potential Joint Commission reviews.
