Our client, a leading healthcare organization committed to delivering high-quality and compassionate mental health services, is hiring a Director of Nursing, Behavioral Health. The Director of Nursing will play a crucial role in overseeing the nursing services within the behavioral health department, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and promoting a patient-centered approach to care. This leadership position requires strategic vision, operational expertise, and a commitment to excellence in mental health nursing.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic planning, organization, and evaluation of nursing services in the behavioral health setting.
- Ensure compliance with national performance goals and quality standards.
- Oversee daily departmental operations, acting as the Administrator for Nursing in their absence.
- Maintain 24/7 responsibility for service delivery, ensuring the provision of safe and effective patient care.
- Develop, implement, and revise policies, procedures, and protocols aligned with evidence-based practices.
- Collaborate with medical and administrative leadership to set and monitor service-specific goals.
- Review staffing models, utilizing guidelines from AWHONN and DOH, to promote safe, patient-centered care.
- Evaluate quality metrics through chart reviews, audits, and patient feedback to ensure high standards.
- Lead departmental initiatives such as Baby Friendly and high-risk medication management.
- Supervise personnel performance, conduct evaluations, and support staff development through ongoing education.
- Assist in budget preparation and manage staffing resources effectively, including agency and overtime utilization.
- Foster interdepartmental cooperation and maintain relationships with community and professional groups.
- Stay current with advancements in psychiatric nursing and participate in relevant conferences and training.
- Address safety concerns promptly and escalate issues appropriately.
- Maintain accurate records and participate in committees and external agency collaborations.
Requirements:
- Current registration and licensure as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
- Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field.
- Minimum of four years of high-level nursing administration experience, with at least three years in a hospital setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage staff, budgets, and compliance in a complex healthcare environment.
- Familiarity with behavioral health protocols, quality metrics, and regulatory requirements.
- Certifications in specialty areas of psychiatric or maternal/child health nursing are preferred.
