Job Description

Our client, a not-for-profit teaching hospital serving an ethnically diverse community in New York City, is hiring a Director of Facilities. The successful candidate will oversee 700,000 square feet of property management, including several off-campus hospital sites. The current team has already developed a comprehensive facilities assessment roadmap, which will be provided to the new leader. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational, project management, and leadership skills, along with a strong vision and experience in planning and design. This role offers a unique opportunity to oversee a diverse array of ongoing capital projects. The successful candidate will have the chance to develop and implement efficient processes, build a cohesive team, and make a significant impact by creating structure and optimizing operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the boiler plant, generation facilities, general maintenance within the hospital, state-supported DTP programs, capital projects, capital campaigns, and vendor management
  • Client-facing interactions with NYC Economic Development Corporation, OMH, and evaluations of vendors
  • Holding staff accountable to ensure a culture of responsibility and efficiency
  • Oversee a diverse array of ongoing capital projects

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years experience as a Director for a comparable Hospital system
  • Consideration may be given to candidates with a current, valid NYC Stationary Engineering license and equivalent experience
  • Specialized advanced training and education in the use and function of various types of equipment and systems, a thorough knowledge of hospital mechanical systems and utilities management, including the proper operation of chillers, boilers, emergency generators, electrical switch gear, automatic transfer switch, pumps and air handling equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination of on-site construction activities and project management ensuring compliance with engineering principles, hospital standards, applicable contracts, and regulatory standards including The Joint Commission and Dept. of Health, Federal, State and Local Code.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing multi-million dollar operational and capital budgets, ability to develop short and long term objectives and performance metrics to measure progress against the objectives in a multi-site facility.
  • Given that a significant portion of the maintenance staff is affiliated with Local 30, prior union experience would be beneficial to help in building effective working relationships and navigating the unique dynamics of the organization
  • Strong leadership experience with the ability to influence and effectively lead others through periods of transition and change
  • Highly organized with excellent communications skills
