Job Description

Our client, a prominent community health network committed to delivering compassionate, accessible care across multiple sites in New York City, is hiring a Chief Nursing Officer. This senior leadership role is vital to advancing nursing excellence, standardizing operational practices, and fostering a high-performance, patient-centered culture across the organization. The Chief Nursing Officer will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer and oversee nursing operations network-wide, leading a team of six direct reports ranging from Medical Assistants to Directors of Nursing. The role emphasizes strengthening RN retention, implementing consistent clinical competencies, and providing hands-on leadership to support sites facing staffing challenges. The position involves travel to various network locations 2–3 times weekly and requires a collaborative, mission-driven leadership style aligned with the organization’s values. The CNO will be responsible for maintaining operational standards, advancing workforce stabilization initiatives, and promoting clinical quality and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the operational and clinical functions of nursing across multiple sites.
  • Developing and executing retention strategies to attract and retain top nursing talent.
  • Standardizing nursing competencies, training, and performance metrics.
  • Providing direct leadership and support to nursing teams, especially in high-stress or understaffed environments.
  • Collaborating with executive leadership to align nursing initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Traveling regularly to network sites to ensure consistency and operational excellence.
  • Promoting a positive, collaborative culture within the nursing department and broader organization.
  • Travel 2–3 times per week to various network locations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; advanced degrees (e.g., MSN, DNP) preferred.
  • Valid nursing license in the state of New York.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience.
  • Prior experience managing teams across multiple sites in a community health context.
  • Proven experience leading multi-site nursing teams in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Strong operational management and organizational skills.
  • Expertise in retention strategies, workforce development, and staff stabilization.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and influence diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to standardize processes and improve clinical quality.
  • Hands-on leadership approach with a relationship-focused style.
  • Previous experience in driving operational standardization initiatives.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance and quality improvement practices.
