Job Description

Tal Healthcare is working with a distinguished healthcare network and respected teaching institution, to recruit their Chief Operating Officer (COO). The Health Network is a not-for-profit healthcare network, delivering high-quality, comprehensive, acute, primary, specialty, and surgical care to diverse communities and neighboring areas in the NY Metropolitan area. The COO will assume a critical leadership role within the organization, reporting directly to the CEO. In this pivotal position, they will collaborate closely with senior executives and the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies aligned with both short- and long-term organizational goals. The COO will engage, integrate, coordinate, oversee, and lead. In this role, you would be responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the hospital and ensure the strategic plan of the organization is integrated with operations, including management of the profit and loss statement and associated resources. This role entails a diverse management portfolio with broad organizational implications and complexity, characterized by substantial responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the overall success of hospital operations, including leading and developing division operating and strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with CEO in setting and driving organizational vision, operations strategy, and hiring levels.
  • Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operations planning.
  • Facilitate a highly matrixed approach in the development of hospital services, demonstrating the ability to work effectively within the health system's decision-making and organizational structures.
  • Focus on systems and program development, quality, fiscal management, compliance, clinical management measures, physician relationships, outreach strategies, work culture enhancement, and internal communication and consensus-building. Ensure that resources are optimally focused enterprise-wide to meet the healthcare needs of those served.
  • Represent the hospital appropriately at the Health System Board of Directors level.
  • Develop and foster effective collaboration between clinical departments, divisions, medical staff leadership, faculty, and other affiliated services both inside and outside the hospital. This ensures an integrated approach to providing services and fulfilling the hospital's clinical, research, and educational goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the management team and medical leadership to reduce costs, enhance revenues, achieve effective utilization, and meet quality goals and objectives. Utilize information to support management decisions.
  • Communicate key information to stakeholders regarding managed care, marketplace needs, the competitive environment, cost management, and customer-focused services.
  • Execute strategic business decisions at a senior level, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic direction and goals.
  • Contribute to healthcare safety and excellence.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree / MBA and a minimum of 10 years related experience required.
  • Must be detail-oriented and with proven analytical skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.
  • Solid grasp of data analysis and performance Metrics.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations. 
  • Comply with organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organization.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Attends committee, and management meetings as appropriate.
  • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directives to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
  • Strong leadership qualities and exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of setting a compelling example.
  • Adaptability in navigating the dynamic environment of an independent health network and will be responsible for clinical, quality, administrative, compliance, operational, and performance improvement activities.
