Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the financial operations of a multi-entity not-for-profit organization. The CFO will lead the finance department, ensuring financial health, sustainability, and compliance. This critical leadership role requires expertise in financial management, grant administration, budgeting, reporting, and operational oversight, working closely with senior leadership to achieve organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Provide leadership to the finance department, aligning operations with the organization's mission and strategic objectives.
- Report financial performance, key metrics, and compliance updates to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that drive organizational success.
- Develop training and professional development plans for finance team members, including accountants, grant managers, and reimbursement staff.
- Directly oversee a team that includes the controller, budget director, and reimbursement director.
Financial Oversight:
- Manage and monitor day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and reconciliations.
- Ensure all financial activities comply with regulations, legal filings, and industry standards.
- Oversee preparation and submission of necessary forms, audits, and reports.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and goals.
- Develop program budgets and prepare comprehensive cash flow projections.
- Provide financial forecasts to identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Monitor expenses to optimize funding, revenue, and program outcomes.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure accurate reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as funder and contract requirements.
- Support executive leadership, auditors, and stakeholders with financial guidance and reporting.
- Update fiscal policies and procedures to reflect best practices.
Reporting and Communication:
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for executive leadership and the Board of Directors, offering clear insights into the organization's financial status.
- Communicate with funders, auditors, and stakeholders to promote transparency and accountability.
- Provide ad-hoc reports as needed for decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
Audit:
- Oversee the annual audit process, ensuring timely completion and addressing any findings.
- Maintain financial records in accordance with accounting standards and best practices.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA designation preferred; MBA a plus.
- At least 5 years of financial leadership experience, with a proven ability to manage finance departments and work closely with executive teams and Boards of Directors.
- Experience in non-profit financial management and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, including Fund-EZ, QuickBooks, and Excel.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, audits, and regulatory frameworks.
- Expertise in managing financial operations for multi-entity organizations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume transactions accurately.
