Job Description

Our client, a growing community health center serving diverse populations, is hiring a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for their Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) division. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to guide financial strategy during a period of expansion, supporting the organization’s mission to improve healthcare access and quality in Brooklyn.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO and senior leadership team.
  • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Lead and supervise a finance team of four staff members, including payroll, general ledger, and billing specialists.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tracking trends from Washington DC that may impact funding or operations.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, including Cohn Reznick.
  • Prepare and present operational and financial reports to the board and finance committee on a monthly basis.
  • Oversee financial audits, grant accounting (current 40% of budget), and review outsourced billing work.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA not required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of senior financial management experience, preferably within healthcare or a similar regulated environment.
  • Proven leadership experience supervising finance staff and managing complex budgets.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare accounting, FQHC operations, and federal funding sources.
  • Experience working with external auditors and managing compliance with government regulations.
  • Ability to stay current with legislative and policy changes affecting healthcare finance.
  • Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated ability to provide financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Healthcare experience is required; experience specifically in FQHCs is required.
  • Willingness to be onsite full-time for the first 90 days, with potential for hybrid work thereafter.
  • Prior experience managing or implementing healthcare IT systems is a plus.
