Description:  Our client, a nationally renowned academic medical center and integrated healthcare delivery system, is currently hiring an Associate Director of Infection Prevention and Control. This position maintains the standards of practice for Infection Prevention as defined by the program’s Standard Operating Procedures for Infection Prevention, and as defined by regulatory agencies and national standards.  This position is accountable with the Director and other Associate Directors for the overall management activities for the Medical Center infection prevention and control program at all sites, which includes assistance with supervision of the Infection Prevention and Control staff, and will have a leadership role for designated special projects to ensure quality care and patient safety.

  • Development, management, oversight and implementation of processes and procedures for high level disinfection and sterilization for hospital based and ambulatory care sites. 
  • Accountable with the Director, the Infection Prevention Committee Chairman, and Committee members in a shared governance model to plan, develop, implement and evaluate outcomes of the Infection Prevention and Control Program. 
  • Partners with the Hospital Epidemiologist, Director of Infection Prevention, and other Associate Directors in setting standards and priorities based on evidence-based literature and guidelines, evaluating compliance with policies and practices, and leading/coaching the performance improvement efforts associated with the prevention and control of hospital acquired infections and infectious exposures.
  • Consults, advises and informs Hospital Epidemiologist/Director of Infection Prevention concerning administrative or other department/program issues, needs and problems.
  • Under the direction of the Hospital Epidemiologist, participates in regional and national collaboratives and academic societies, utilizes and initiates research to improve departmental functions and patient safety, and assists with design and implementation of informatics and technology infrastructure required to improve institutional access and feedback of infection-related data.


  • Master's Degree or equivalent training in a health-related area is required.-
  • Professional Registered Nurse license and current registration to practice in New York State or equivalent licensure for  applicable non-nursing candidates.
  • Infection Control, hospital epidemiology or related experience required.
  • Documented commitment to continuing professional development.
  •  Infection control/AAMI certification preferred at time of employment. Certification in area of specialty to be obtained in a reasonable period of time and maintained during employment.
  • Clinical Information System (CIS)
  • Experience working with performance improvement tools and methods, such as PDSA, LEAN techniques, and High Reliability Organizations preferred
  • Clinical Practice experience
  • Experience in qualitative/quantitative methods and health policy
  • Expert knowledge of regulatory requirements, including but TJC, CMS COPs, AAMI standards, AORN standards, etc
  • Experience in leading the full continuum, including the inpatient and outpatient environments, as well as medical and nursing education (including residents) is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation skills and the ability to influence
