Job Description
Our client, a leading provider of comprehensive palliative and supportive care services in the New York Metro Area, is hiring a Psychiatrist (MD/DO) to join their dedicated team. This critical role offers an opportunity to make a profound impact on patients facing serious, life-limiting illnesses by delivering specialized psychiatric care within an interdisciplinary, compassionate environment. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing complex emotional and behavioral needs, supporting patient autonomy, and enhancing quality of life through evidence-based interventions.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations for patients with advanced illnesses, addressing mood disorders, anxiety, delirium, cognitive impairments, trauma-related symptoms, and existential distress.
- Provide psychopharmacologic management tailored to medically complex and frail patients, including those with limited prognoses or multiple medication considerations.
- Offer supportive psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and family-centered counseling as appropriate to facilitate emotional resilience and understanding.
- Collaborate closely with palliative care teams, including physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and care coordinators, to develop and implement integrated, patient-centered care plans.
- Participate in goals-of-care conferences, advance care planning discussions, and communicate prognosis and treatment options with patients and families.
- Support clinical staff through consultation, education, and debriefing on challenging psychiatric and behavioral issues.
- Document clinical assessments, interventions, and recommendations in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives, interdisciplinary team rounds, and program development efforts to enhance supportive care services.
Requirements:
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certification or Eligibility in Psychiatry; subspecialty training in Psychosomatic Medicine, Hospice & Palliative Medicine, or Geriatric Psychiatry preferred.
- Eligible for medical licensure in New York State.
- Demonstrated experience working with medically complex, seriously ill, or end-of-life populations is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication skills, compassionate approach, and commitment to dignity-centered care.
