Description: Hiring a Director of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine & Acute Mechanical Cardiopulmonary Support for a top medical system in New Jersey. The Director of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine & Acute Mechanical Cardiopulmonary Support will be an integral member of the cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, mechanical circulatory support and critical care health care team who works in collaboration with medical staff to provide comprehensive health services to acutely ill patient. The Director of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine & Acute Mechanical Cardiopulmonary Support is responsible for executing the goals and objectives of the cardio-pulmonary services of the organization, particularly related to the medical management of cardiothoracic surgery, transplant and MCS patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide and coordinate 24-hour call schedule for medical providers
  • Provide managerial rounds for residents and fellows on Critical Care
  • Provide scheduled lectures for medical residents as needed
  • Review admission and discharge data with case managers for timely decisions
  • Work with Administration and Medical Staff on bed management, resource utilization and length of stay
  • Collaborate with pre- and post-transplant coordinators, nursing, VAD, ECMO, perfusion and medical staff
  • Implement timely data collection and analysis processes to improve work flow and provide quality control mechanisms
  • Serve as the ECMO Center Program Director
  • Establish and update as necessary physician and staff training, certification, and re-certification programs for MCS, including but not limited to ECMO, L/RVAD
  • Manage post resuscitation brain protection
  • Integrate clinical findings with laboratory investigations to form a differential diagnosis
  • Assess and manage patients with severity-of-illness scores: APACHE, SAPS
  • Assess and manage patients with multi-organ dysfunction scores: SOFA, MODS
  • Provides nutrition support for patients with: Severe acute pancreatitis, Renal failure, Liver failure, Sepsis and septic shock, Post-gastrointestinal surgery patient

Education Requirements:

  • Board certified in Cardiology or Pulmonary Medicine (or foreign equivalent)
  • Board certified in Critical Care Medicine (or foreign equivalent)
  • Basic Life Support Certification required
  • Advanced cardiac life support Certification required
