Description: Hiring a Bone Marrow Transplant Physician Assistant for a renowned academic medical center and integrated healthcare delivery system, it is currently seeking to hire a Physician Assistant, Bone Marrow Transplant. The Physician Assistant, Bone Marrow Transplant will obtain consent for chemotherapy and transplant, and place in chart. The Physician Assistant, Bone Marrow Transplant will attend daily rounds and enter daily progress notes.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with attendings about readiness/priority of patient for admission, and with admitting about bed availability
  • Enter admitting note
  • Enter autologous or allogeneic supportive care, prophylactic and medication orders for transplant
  • Check lab results including pregnancy test prior to start of conditioning regimen
  • Obtain consent for chemotherapy and transplant, and place in chart
  • Coordinate with attending concerning conditioning regimen and any dose adjustments
  • Attend daily rounds and enter daily progress note
  • Check labs on all patients on service once or some cases twice a day
  • Check surveillance viral testing
  • Check tacrolimus levels and adjust dose
  • Make sure all electrolytes are repleted
  • Order and monitor GVHD prophylaxis/medications
  • Make sure discharge summary and prescriptions are written correctly
  • Coordinate with social worker/homecare for all home needs including IV treatments
  • Make sure patient has proper clinic follow up appointment
  • Teach Fellows about management of the SCT and leukemic patients
  • Identify new leukemics and transplant candidates, communicate with attendings and clinicians concerning HLA typing, and with blood bank concerning irradiated products and CMV status
  • Act as liaison between attending, patient and family
  • Answer questions about disease, treatment and care
  • Follow up on results of all scans and X-rays
  • Perform ABG, EKG, remove CVP line, assess wounds and dressings, suture removal, venipuncture
  • Available to push IV chemotherapy and administer IT chemotherapy
  • 7pm-7am Shift

Education Requirements:

  • Physician Assistant Certification
  • New York State License
