We have been retained by Maimonides Medical Center to hire their Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer.
Since 1911, Maimonides Medical Center (which includes Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital and Maimonides Children’s Hospital) has been a cornerstone of the Brooklyn community and is the largest hospital in Brooklyn. Over the last century, they’ve become a world-class care center and a vital part of New York City. From the 1st heart transplant in the U.S. to the 1st hospital-based Clinical Simulation Center in the Northeast, they are on the cutting edge of innovation. Maimonides is proud to be Brooklyn’s leading medical center for the most sophisticated services, providing outstanding care to the borough’s residents across their lifespans. Their nationally recognized clinical services ensure that Brooklyn residents receive the best care – right in Brooklyn. They offer centers of excellence in Heart and Vascular Care, Cancer and Breast Care, Neurosciences/Stroke, and Orthopedics. Maimonides has the largest and most experienced robotic surgery team in Brooklyn, and they have the borough’s only two hybrid operating rooms in which complex surgeries are performed using the most advanced technology. They also offer primary care services through a growing network of physicians across Brooklyn.
The Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, serves as the primary interface between Human Resources and the entity leadership and consults and collaborates with the entity Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Senior Leadership Team, and frontline management across the full spectrum of HR offerings: Employment, Compensation, Benefits, Employee and Labor Relations, and Organizational Development Programs, etc. The SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer builds, develops, and leads the entity HR team in support of both the HR and entity missions and objectives; ensures an entity HR team capable of meeting the highest standards of customer service and leverages personal knowledge of HR content and best practices to assure thorough alignment of HR and entity strategy.
Key Challenges
- Maintain a labor relations environment that promotes cooperative labor management strategies. (1199, NYSNA, CIR)
- Enhance training and development program and assign priorities as related to employee engagement survey, leadership training, and teamwork.
- Develop strategies linking compensation to performance management.
- Lead the Medical Center through human resources information system upgrade to People Soft and Applicant Tracking System (ICMI) implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- As a member of the Executive Management team, participates in developing hospital strategic objectives and align Human Resources philosophy and programs with the medical Center’s strategic priorities.
- Establishes and promotes cooperative labor management strategies, including leadership role as a trustee in multiple labor-management trust funds, membership in League-1199 negotiating committee, and serving as management spokesperson for internal labor-management committees. The role will also take the lead in NYSNA and CIR collective bargaining negotiations.
- Develops goals and objectives for the Human Resources Departments and initiates specific programs in response to customer needs. Manages and integrates the various functions of the department, including Employment, Compensation, Benefits, Labor Relations, and Training.
- Serves as internal consultant to Senior Management on change management, HRIS, and HR implications in organizational restructuring and collective bargaining.
- Works with the executive management team to develop organizational interventions to promote a culture of customer service excellence and integrated delivery system.
- Evaluates performance of HR management staff and ensures quality of services and technical expertise of departmental personnel.
- Maintains ultimate responsibility for approval of hospital-wide personnel actions such as wage re-openers, merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
- Develops hospital philosophy, approaches and policies on compensation strategies, benefits plan design, budget and contract negotiations, and employee relations agenda.
- Develops department budget for staffing and capital expenses and ensures that department operates within allocated funds. Maintains department statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes. Ensures the currency security and accuracy of personnel data for the hospital and development of hospital-wide statistics, cost projections and personal information on all employees.
- Evaluates changing demographic, legal and technical developments in the fields of Human Resources and organizational development; develops new programs responsive to such needs.
- Reviews departments' performance in relation to established goals, implementing changes to affect continual improvement in the services provided, and to assure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
The Ideal Candidate:
Maimonides Medical Center seeks a Sr. Vice President of Human Resources who brings a mix of experience, talent, style, and values that will enable them to succeed in a complex, diverse, environment and assist in maintaining Maimonides status as a leading healthcare provider. Master’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field and/or a J.D. required. HR Certification (SPHR/PHR) and/or executive compensation experience is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience with demonstrated management capability and broad knowledge of HR services needed, gained within a sizable, complex healthcare organization or multi-hospital system.
- Prior experience as a Chief Human Resources Officer preferred.
- Prior experience working in a union environment is critical.
- Prior experience in a NY Healthcare environment is a plus.
- Proven experience leading positive change in a tight fiscal environment.
- Experience working with a highly diverse workforce and community stakeholders.
The salary range is $400K - $500K. This salary range is not a guarantee. The actual salary will be based on qualifications, experience, and education and could fall outside of this range. Contact us for more information.
