Job Description

Our client, a large non-profit mental and behavioral health services provider, is hiring a Medical Director to provide leadership in the provision of medical care.
Responsibilities:
  • Developing processes and procedures, and supporting clinical, nursing and program staff in addressing systemic issues related to health.
  • Work closely with program and nursing leadership to meet medical needs of this vulnerable population.
  • Serve, when needed, as liaison to medical providers in the community who provide primary or specialized care.   
  • Work 14 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
  • Develop, oversee, and assist with implementation of medical policies and procedures throughout ICFs and IRAs.
  • Participate in bi-annual interdisciplinary safety reviews of every individual in ICFs and IRAs to make and sign off on the determination if current level of care is appropriate.
  • Attend quarterly Medication Efficacy Review meetings for individuals who take psychotropic medication with a focus on impact of medical conditions and medications on behaviors.
  • Assist, as needed, with pharmacist’s quarterly Medication Regimen Reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with Executive Program Director, Senior Nursing Director, Clinical Directors and Residential Directors to maximize integration of medical care within disciplines.
  • Partner with Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer around vision for medical care in IDD settings. Must have experience with this community. 
  • Support quality improvement projects in coordination with Senior Nursing Director.
  • Participate in work rounds when onsite.
  • Participate in environmental rounds in each apartment or residence.
  • Be available to nurses for consultation regarding acute medical concerns among individuals.
  • When necessary, provide collateral information and clinical impressions to local emergency room staff for individuals needing urgent evaluation.
  • When indicated, consult with hospital and nursing home medical staff to obtain information, provide information, advocate for an individual’s needs, or inform discharge planning.
  • Engage in outreach to local medical providers to diversify individuals’ options for primary care.
  • When indicated, speak with primary care providers regarding individuals whose health is declining so that observations can be shared.
  • Strengthen operational workings and communication lines among disciplines (nursing, program, clinical, medical providers) in a matrixed environment.
  • Works with Compliance Department to prepare for audits and responds accordingly to results of audits.
  • Stay current with emerging developments in the fields of concern related to emerging and best practices, evidenced-based practices in treating conditions that commonly impact people with developmental disabilities, and policy and workforce issues.
Requirements:
  • Medical degree with a license to practice in the State of New York is required. 
  • Candidate must have completed a residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine, and be Board Certified.
  • 2+ years of management experience including oversight of the delivery of clinical services
  • Experience of clinical practice in community-based setting
  • Verified verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven effective collaboration skills
  • Communication and relationship management.
  • Knowledge of clinical best practices and quality standards in medical care.
  • Business knowledge and skills.
  • Leadership and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated passion and experience serving individuals with developmental delays within a highly complex and diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to medical care that prioritizes evidence and to person-centeredness, trauma-informed care, and culturally relevant treatment.
