Our Client, a nonprofit organization that empowers individuals with disabilities and other barriers, is currently seeking to hire an Executive Vice President, Mission Services. The Executive Vice President, Mission Services designs strategies to serve people with disabilities and barriers to employment lead to best in class social services, prepare proposals for government and philanthropy and negotiate contracts. The Executive Vice President, Mission Services is responsible for overall management and strategic direction of the organization’s Mission Services division focusing on people with disabilities and integrating mission into all parts of the social enterprise.
Responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of Mission Services – helping secure jobs, careers, and wellness for people with disabilities, mental health and unemployed. This is an organization that focuses on the power of work for all people. Last year they served over 8,000 people with 1,000 new job placements, wellness services, independence advocacy, hundreds of internships and job coaching and support services for the employed.
Essential Functions:
Strategic, Operational & Outcomes Driven Leadership
- Design strategies to serve people with disabilities and other barriers to employment to lead to best-in-class social services, build strong and innovative program design resulting in good jobs and job retention.
- Create vision for innovative approaches to services that are person-centered and lead to independence, wellness and engaging in employment and community.
- Act as a strong people leader and effectively lead, manage and mentor the Mission leadership team and help them continuously improve, be accountable and grow; Put the team at the forefront and ensure strong support of staff in executing our mission and life-long learning and growth for the over 400 staff in our Mission services department. Create a pipeline of next generation Mission leadership through continuous training and development opportunities.
- Leverage data and analytics for both accountability and decision making and ensure that lead and lag metrics are used and verified within programs and across Mission Services.
- Monitor existing programs with strong data oversight to assure contract compliance, that funding source goals are achieved or exceeded and that organizational objectives / KPIs are achieved. Negotiate contracts and advocate for correct funding levels and proper design.
- Provide fiscal leadership for Mission Services -- including development of budgets and acting as the lead for the annual planning process for the Mission Services budget of over $40 Million and provide ongoing monitoring and oversight for such budgets.
- Provide leadership, oversight and strong vendor management for all current and future/proposed program vendors, requiring strong ROI analysis and maintaining ongoing face to face relationships with all vendors
- Stay abreast of changing landscape in service delivery/funding models on Federal, State and City level.
- Assure compliance with all regulatory accreditation entities.
- Maintain an external presence and be an effective advocate: author, speak and provide thought leadership in our field through studies, Op-Eds and at conferences; represent The organizations success stories in marketing, the press, conferences and on various boards of aligned organizations.
Innovate, Grow and Deepen Relationships
- Ensure ability to successfully launch new innovative programs in partnerships with CBOs, educational institutions, corporate sponsors, or employer partners. Review and vet RFPs for potential new programs based on agency mission and ensure synergy and fiscal stability and sustainability.
- Cultivate new relationships with existing and potential funding sources, maintain strong philanthropic networks, and major donors for continued success and/or growth of programs. Notably current goals are to expand DOL, DYCD, SEMP programs and programs in NJ / Newark.
- Build meaningful relationships with employers meeting their needs for hiring Persons with Disabilities (PWD), unemployed, and post-training graduates. Build an internal “Job Developer Network” to ensure growth of positive metrics and outcomes for employers who hire, have interns, and/or job coaches with them.
- Be a leader in innovation in new models by testing and measuring impacts/outcomes.
- Identify and develop new opportunities for emerging populations to be served and resources needed.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Policy or related field.
- Ten plus years of progressive supervisory experience working with a wide array of employment and/or social service programs in a not for profit or public sector organization.
- Excellent written and oral presentation and communication skills.
- Marketing and development experience in sharing the work of a social service organization to raise awareness, advocate and fundraise.
- Experience with social service research design, KPIs and launching major IT software projects preferred.
- Demonstrated success in launching new program designs – experience with development of new programs and implementation, and on-going problem solving and raising new funding for programs and general operating capital.
- Must have strong data analytical, person-centered management foundation and financial and business acumen and skills.
- In-depth knowledge of a variety of services and funding streams for services for individuals with disabilities, economically disadvantaged, and employment related services.
Requirements:
- Excellent people management and experience innovating, creating and building social services teams. Experience leading, coaching and mentoring teams, and building rapports with individuals of varying educational levels and diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent influencing skills to advocate with key State and City agencies and representatives to influence legislation and/or regulation that support Mission Services’ strategy.
- Strong collaboration skills to work within and across the organizations Person Centered teams.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to a wide variety of demands and standards from numerous funding sources and regulatory bodies.
- Fiscal and programmatic oversight and responsibility for $40 million-dollar annual budget derived from 20 different funding streams, 400+ employees in New York City and Northern NJ and over 30 programs.
- Ability to travel to service locations in NY and Northern NJ and required meetings, events and presentations.
- 3 Days in the offices of our delivery services and/or our HQ in Brooklyn
